Shop concept and signage design for guiding a “lifestyle with cars.”
AUTOBACS SEVEN is the company behind “autobacs,” a nation-wide retailer of automotive parts and accessories in Japan. For its new shop “A PIT AUTOBACS SHINONOME,” PARTY was in charge of developing the concept, naming, signage planning and design.
Concept: “The place for cars, as well as people, to pit in.”
We focused on a strength of the autobacs brand, the pit services that caters to the needs of various customers. By taking it a step further by incorporating a bookstore, cafe, kids space, this space transforms from one that offers car parts to one that proposes “lifestyles with automobiles.”
Having a nice chat with someone, drinking coffee, refilling the car’s gas, flipping through books, discovering a next destination.
The target users go beyond just car-lovers, and include females, children, and even pets. Our goal was to create a shop that anyone and everyone who use cars in their daily lives can stop by with ease.
Wayfindings
The flow line and signage of Autobacs shops had been one with the premise that all customers have knowledge of cars. We designed A PIT AUTOBACS SHINONOME with the generally accessible them of lifestyle, and the motif of “a guidebook that makes one want to go ride around in a car.” We developed an in-store experience that guides customers as if they are browsing a guidebook, setting eight scenes of a “lifestyle with cars,” such as “Nature & Cars,” “Sports & Cars,” “Family & Cars.” To let customers feel more familiar with pit service, we set up cameras in each pit to show live streaming of what happens inside. On the large signage inside the shop, customers can see in real-time how the pit staff members are working. Customers receiving pit service can also check on the status via their smartphones. Displaying the staff names on the back of uniforms and offering the live streaming, our goal was to bring Autobacs and customers closer.
